Maintaining your oral health through the changing seasons can be challenging. Fortunately, the team at Clarkson Dental Group has put together a few tips to help you keep your oral health throughout the year and during the changing seasons.
Oral Health Tips for Winter
Major holidays occur during the cold months, including Christmas, Hanukkah, and Valentine’s Day. While indulging in desserts and holiday candies is fine, we recommend moderation.
Additionally, because the American Dental Association recommends two checkups and teeth cleanings per year, scheduling one of these visits immediately after the holidays may be a good idea.
Oral Health Tips for Spring
Spring has fewer holidays than the winter months, but if you celebrate Easter, be mindful to clean your teeth after indulging in chocolate and other sweets.
Oral Health Tips for Summer
Summer is a time for vacations and picnics. As with other holidays, just be mindful of sweets and sugary and acidic foods and drinks that can cause tooth decay. Also, if you compete on a summer ball team, talk to your dentist about a mouthguard.
Oral Health Tips for Fall
Fall brings Halloween and Thanksgiving and leads into the end-of-the-year holidays. From Halloween on, we encourage you to be vigilant with your brushing and flossing.
Guidelines for Oral Health All Year Long
No matter the season, the guidelines are the same.
- Brush your teeth at least twice daily or after eating sweets and treats.
- Floss your teeth at least once daily or after eating or indulging in seasonal fare.
- Visit your Chesterfield dentist every six months for checkups and cleanings.
- Report oral health changes to your dentist if they do not improve.
- If you travel during the year and cannot always brush and floss on schedule, try rinsing your mouth to clear debris from the tooth enamel.
