Why Experience Matters With Implants

Serving St. Louis and Surrounding Communities

If considering a dental implant, would you prefer to have someone place the implant who has done hundreds or several? When having an implant restored, would you rather have someone restore your implant who has successfully done hundreds or a few? If you are considering dental implants, it is entirely appropriate to ask questions. How many implants have the surgeon and the restoring dentist completed? What is their success rate? What are the pros and cons of implants for your specific situation? Ask questions. And make sure your implant “team” has the appropriate experience to achieve the desired result.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Typically, if you are a candidate for a dental implant, Dr. Boyle will discuss your situation with you, including your goals, the pros and cons of implants versus other means of tooth replacement and what you can reasonably expect as a result. Dr. Boyle will then refer you to one of the best implant surgeons in St. Louis. After you have consulted with the surgeon, Dr. Boyle and the surgeon will confer and coordinate their findings. When you are comfortable with the final plan, we will schedule appointments to get started. The surgeon will place your implants. After appropriate healing, Dr. Boyle will restore your implants with the care and expertise that his experience of over 25 years in the field allows him to bring to each patient. When your implant “team” has experience, they are accustomed to educating patients so you will better understand the process.

ACCURATE PLANNING IS CRUCIAL

The planning portion of implants is every bit as important as the actual placement and restoration of the implants. When planning a dental implant case, the height, width, and density of your bone must be carefully evaluated. The restoring dentist and surgeon should closely confer so as to achieve the ideal location and angulation of the implants. Additionally, the number of implants necessary to properly support the restoration, so as to ensure proper function and comfort, must be considered. And, of course, the esthetic concerns to achieve the most beautiful, natural looking result must be very carefully evaluated. There is so much planning in an implant case, that only an experienced practitioner should be considered. Dr. Boyle believes that only a qualified surgeon should place a dental implant. Typically, surgeons who place implants include Periodontists (gum specialists) and Oral Surgeons. A reputable surgeon will place implants for the patients of 30 to 40 different referring restorative dentists. So they will have placed far more implants than any individual restorative dentist has restored. There are very few general dentists who have placed any implants and fewer still who have placed a significant number; hence the value of a surgeon. The more experience the restoring dentist has, the better your case will be planned and the better your result will be.

CARRYING OUT THE PLAN

Successful completion of the plan is the most important aspect of all, of course. If your implant “team” is experienced, they will be better able to achieve your desired result more predictably and efficiently. Dr. Boyle has restored hundreds of implants over the last 25+ years. And he would be happy to discuss implants with you. If you are interested, please call Dr. Boyle for a consultation appointment at no charge.
