Services & Procedures: Preventive Dental Care
Serving St. Louis and Surrounding Communities
We strongly believe that good preventive dental care can and will reduce the frequency or severity of many dental problems. The most simple and effective preventive care begins with regular dental cleanings and oral exams. At these appointments, we educate our patients so you understand the preventive measures you can take to ensure the best dental health possible.
Some examples of Preventive Dental Care services include:
Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer reported annually in the United States, accounting for about 3.6 % of all cancers diagnosed (40,000 per year) and 3% of all cancer deaths (9,000 per year). Oral cancer is often difficult to self-diagnose, so routine dental examinations are strongly recommended. When not diagnosed and treated in its early stages, oral cancer can spread, leading to chronic pain, loss of function, irreparable facial and oral disfigurement, and death.
Oral Hygiene Instructions and Tips
We can customize a home cleaning program to help you improve your oral health and to address any trouble spots that may exist. We can educate you on proper brushing and flossing procedures.

Fluoride Treatments
While many people think fluoride is just for kids, research shows that fluoride is highly effective in reducing tooth sensitivity and decay for adults who may have gum recession that has left root surfaces exposed. Root surfaces are not covered with enamel and are therefore very sensitive and highly susceptible to decay.
Sealants
A sealant is a clear or white plastic coating for the chewing surface grooves of your teeth. This is one of the easiest ways to prevent decay on back teeth where we most commonly find tooth decay.
Bruxism (grinding/clenching) Appliance
Grinding and/or clenching can cause teeth to crack or break. Long term grinding can leave the teeth so worn down that it is difficult to properly chew. A bruxism appliance can be worn to help protect the teeth from constant wear and eventual fracturing. These appliances may also break the habit of clenching and/or grinding.
